. . . The Groundhog Day Game. 3. player. 54

Barry Switzer wasn’t the head coach in Dallas long, but it wouldn’t take him long to be poisoned by that Dallas Cowboys arrogance. That arrogance would help set up one of the great moments in this long rivalry. The Eagles trailed early but rallied to tie the game at 17 points apiece. With just over two minutes to play in the contest, Dallas faced fourth down and about three inches from their own 30-yard line.

In one of the greatest showings of disrespect, rather than punt, Switzer elected to go for it, twice.

Emmitt Smith took the handoff and was stuffed on fourth down, but the officials awarded Dallas a gift, ruling that the play started after the two-minute warning. It was still fourth down. Surely, Dallas would punt now, right?

Wrong.

Dallas ran the exact same play, and Bill Romanowski (yes, he actually played for the Eagles) and Andy Harmon stopped Smith again. Merrill Reese’s epic call of ‘They give it to Smith and they stop him again! They stop him again!’ was immortalized forever.
