10 NCAA prospects Eagles can pair with Cre’Von LeBlanc at cornerback
It’s really difficult to evaluate cornerbacks who play in a conference where most of the teams seem to be allergic to playing anything that resembles defense. Honestly, it makes one wonder why highly touted defensive standouts sign letters of intent to play in the Big 12 Conference.
It just feels like they’ll be lumped into a group of ‘what-ifs’ and then branded with the scarlet letter.
Jeff Gladney seems to have survived all of the negative connotations as one of the star collegiate athletes who disproves several notions that the Big 12 is void of any real consistent talent on defense. He’ll make someone a nice nickel corner in the NFL, and he figures to come off of draft boards in Round 2 or Round 3.
In 2019, Javaris Davis was placed on many teams’ preseason watch list. he didn’t disappoint with 41 tackles, six passes broken up. and an interception. He’s been a rotational nickel back for the Auburn Tigers over the past few seasons and figures to do the same at the next level with his five-foot-ten, 180-pond frame.
He’ll do well in the slot with Cre’Von LeBlanc and hopefully one of these other standouts on the field with him. Might Jalen Mills be the other corner on the outside? Buckle up guys and gals. We’ll be discussing all of these guys and several others as we get closer to the selection meeting in April.
Here’s a small guy who’s also speedy. Darnay Holmes is a five-foot-ten, 198-pound prospect who figures to run the 40 in less than 4.5 seconds. He was a late addition to the Senior Bowl, but he deserved to be there following a strong 2019 campaign to close his career.
In his final run at the collegiate level, Holmes registered 33 tackles, two picks, and six passes defended. He’s currently seen as a guy who may go around Round 4.
