player. 42. . . . Matt Breida. 6

So much for the draft process. No one gave Matt Breida a call during the three days of the 2017 NFL Draft. You read that right, no one. Instead, he signed on with the San Francisco 49ers and just so happened to bump into one of the great offensive minds in all of professional football, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan.

Since then, Breida’s appeared in 43 games with 18 starts. He’s got 1,902 rushing yards, 561 receiving yards and ten total touchdowns on his NFL resume. He hasn’t even peaked yet, but here’s the good news for the other 31 NFL teams, including Philly. He hasn’t been extended past 2019 either.

player. 13. . . . Austin Ekeler. 5

Here’s the bad news. Austin Ekeler probably isn’t a feature back, and he’ll probably never be the guy who’s going to tote the rock 20 to 25 times. Still, in a committee system where he can be the ‘other guy,’ there’s a very high chance of success, and this could be a guy that could flourish.

Ekeler has proven that he has elite skills as a receiver, something Coach Pederson likes. He also has little wear and even less tear on his body as it seems that, for whatever reason, the Los Angeles Chargers just didn’t have any interest in turning him loose.
