4. Arik Armstead

From an experience perspective, Arik Armstead deserves a ton of credit for becoming a reliable starter in San Francisco after starting every game for the defense over the last two seasons.

This year, the 49ers established a reputation for having one of the top defenses in the league, and while plenty of key factors came into play for the unit’s success in 2019, Armstead setting a career high of 10 sacks ranks near the top of the list.

Back in 2015, the 49ers felt confident enough in using a first-round pick on Armstead, and even though it took a little bit longer for him to begin living up to his true potential, there’s nothing wrong with being late to the party.

As a result of Armstead’s success from the last two seasons, mainly this past year, chances are Armstead will be considered one of the top defensive ends in free agency if he doesn’t return to San Francisco.

Of course, one of the difficult things about a player like Armstead coming off a career season is the fact that he is now due for a hefty contract, whether it happens to be from the 49ers or another team.

With Philadelphia having the money to spend, one can only imagine what kind of addition Armstead would be to the defensive side of the football.
