3. Jimmie Ward

Could Jimmie Ward end up on a new team during the 2020 season if the 49ers decide the safety is going to be too expensive to keep around?

While Ward’s preference will most likely be to remain in San Francisco since the team appears to be built strong enough to seriously contend in the NFC for years to come, it never hurts for a player with his value to explore the open market.

With plenty of teams in need of help at the safety position, chances are the Eagles would have to compete with numerous teams to sign Ward if the interest were there.

At the moment, no one really seems to know what to expect from Malcolm Jenkins moving forward since the veteran has made it clear he is currently unhappy with his contract situation.

But also, since Jenkins isn’t getting any younger, this could play into the factor of Philadelphia exploring all options in free agency, whether it happens to be Ward or someone else.

Even if Ward will be turning 29 this summer, the safety still seems like he could give a defense like the Eagles plenty of good years before he starts to become a risk over his play being on the decline.
