54. . . . NFC Divisional Round: January 13th, 2018. 3. player

Once upon a time, the greatest underdog story in Philadelphia sports history was a work of fiction. You know the one. It was about a boxer who ran up the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He’s got a statue in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ and everything.

Fast forward, and now the greatest underdog story is about a team that despite earning a 13-3 record had no one’s respect when the playoffs began in 2018. FOX Sports 1’s Nick Wright was even quoted as saying ‘I think every team (in the postseason) has a shot (at winning the Super Bowl) except for the number-one seed, Philly’.

Philadelphia entered their first playoff game since 2013 as the NFC’s number-one seed and the first NFL team to enter a playoff game as an underdog in the divisional round.

The Eagles relied heavily on a defensive effort as the high-flying and high-scoring Atlanta Falcons were held to ten points. This one ended dramatically as four straight attempts by the Falcons offense was turned back on their four final attempts at a go-ahead score.

On what would be the final offensive play of Atlanta’s season, Matt Ryan threw an incomplete pass to Julio Jones in the back of the end zone. The Eagles won by a score of 15–10 and survived to ensure one more game would be played at ‘The Linc’. That game would be one for the ages, and it’s the next game of the countdown.
