Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Reasons to be concerned about 2020’s season
3. The window is closing.
Whether they have underperformed or dealt with injuries, this Eagles team is dangerously close to facing a very real possibility. It isn’t completely unfathomable that this team could fall on hard times and sooner than we all realize.
Championship windows don’t stay open as long as we’re accustomed to. Unfortunately, every sports fan doesn’t realize that because the past two generations of even the most casual fans have been spoiled by dynasties.
There’s the Los Angeles Lakers of the eighties and the version that won five more titles between 2000 and 2010. There are the San Francisco 49ers of the eighties and nineties. Then, there are teams like the San Antonio Spurs and the New England Patriots.
If you’re a part of a fan base that’s lucky enough to see a long reign, cherish it because sustained dominance isn’t a sure thing, and it may not come again. Just ask the Seattle Seahawks.
Don’t look now, but Carson Wentz is entering his prime, and so far most of his NFL run has been plagued by injury and wasting some nice effort on underachieving teams. Now, some of that can be blamed on the injury bug, but playing in the NFC East should have taught Philly something, especially when a new division champion is crowned every year.
You have to make the most of your opportunities when they come. Much hinges on this offseason. The Eagles have cap space. They have draft picks. If they capitalize on these next few months, they’ll again be in the hunt for a Lombardi Trophy. If they can’t, one of the other great teams in a loaded NFC can snatch the rug right out from under them.
