Damon Arnette, Cornerback. . player. 812. . .

Here’s what’s tricky about Damon Arnette. There are some rumblings that several teams could shy away from him because of two words no prospect wants to hear associated with his name, ‘character concerns’.

Depending on how the draft plays out, he could be a first-round or a second-round guy. Talent-wise, he’s probably someone who should go early, but all of the talks about his mental makeup could result in him sliding. It just all depends on how things play out once the ball gets rolling.

If Henry Ruggs III of the Alabama Crimson Tide does wind up being Philly’s first-round selection, Arnette may wind up being the second-round choice.

In 2019, the six-foot, 195-pound Arnette turned heads with 35 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and eight pass breakups. The only question now is can he be a true number-one cover guy at the next level or is some of his success attributable to having Jeff Okudah on the other side of the formation?

That latter theory is an interesting one. Another is this. Teams intentionally shied away from Okudah at times, making Arnette the more targeted corner. He responded with some very nice showings and moments, including a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown versus the Indiana Hoosiers.

He possesses the ability to play both man coverage and zone at the next level. He has the speed to keep up with some of the pro game’s burners. It’s going to be hard to run past him.
