Jalen Mills, cornerback. . player. 54. . .

Cornerback Jalen Mills’ return could be an underrated move for the team this coming season (if that’s a part of the plan). Mills gets a lot of criticism from Eagles fans because of his inconsistent play, but he’s undeniably talented and a favorite of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Mills is a sure tackler who isn’t afraid to take chances. He understands the scheme well, and if the Eagles want to stand a chance against the talented receivers in the NFC, replacing both starting cornerbacks isn’t the best strategy, especially if there are drastic changes at the safety position.

Mills provides insurance for a cornerback room that includes a struggling former second-round pick in Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas, whom no one will confuse as being ‘speedy’. Neither could secure a starting spot when they were given the opportunity to do so.

The former LSU Tigers product could look to sign a short-term, prove-it deal in hopes of returning to free agency with a stronger market next year. That also affords the Eagles the opportunity to strengthen the secondary while they pursue options in both free agency and April’s NFL Draft.
