. player. 54. . . . Josh McCown, quarterback

After the season ended, it looked certain Josh McCown’s playing days were over. It took one game for the 16-year veteran’s body to breakdown, as he reportedly tore his hamstring off the bone, seemingly ending his career, but the veteran quarterback has stated that he still wants to play, and that could be a good thing for the Eagles.

The Eagles value experience in the backup quarterback position as they’ve employed Chase Daniel, Nick Foles, and McCown during Doug Pederson‘s tenure. McCown is a veteran who played admirably against the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs, but his value extends beyond the football field.

Watching Amazon’s All or Nothing series on the Eagles highlighted just how important McCown is for Carson Wentz. He was consistently helping with encouragement, advice and more nuanced football information. McCown’s value as a quasi-coach should be highly valued by the team.

In the event McCown does decide it’s time to hang up his cleats, the Eagles should do everything in their power to add him to the coaching staff in some capacity.
