Philadelphia Eagles to release Nigel Bradham per report: 3 Reactions
2. Of course, it always comes down to money.
Again, this is a decision that shouldn’t shock anyone. Much has been made about all of the potential free agents that Philly will have to make determinations about.
Bradham’s release frees up about $4.5 million in salary-cap space, money that they’ll, no doubt use to lure in some potential free agents and sign a few guys they’ve intended to keep all along.
As a fan of the ‘Birds’, you have to hope that one of those guys is Malcolm Jenkins. Though he’s not one of the guys that’s up for getting a chance to dip into the free-agency pool, he has publicly stated that he won’t return to Philly with his contract being constructed as it is.
Let’s ease all of those minds slightly though Eagles fans. All of the talks about getting younger didn’t apply to Philly’s ‘Iron Man’. ’27’ turns 33 in December, but he’s clearly found that mythical ‘fountain of youth’.
Since his arrival in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ in 2014, he’s played 100 percent of the defensive snaps and more than his fair share of those on special teams minus the 2017 season, where he and the starters sat most of the Week 17 contest versus the Dallas Cowboys as they prepared for what would be a title run in that year’s postseason.
We’ll have to wait and see how Philly reallocates the funds freed up by Bradham’s departure and whether or not Jenkins is one of the guys who benefit from some of this newfound spending change.
