Grades for every cornerback Philadelphia Eagles have drafted since 2010
43rd-overall selection (2017)
Sheesh! We’ve reached the Sidney Jones portion of the discussion. Okay, let’s be frank. We all could explain some things in the beginning. Philly took the latest man to wear ’22’ for the Eagles in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft knowing that they were giving him a redshirt.
Most of us knew he’d need time to get into the swing of things, but none of us thought we’d still be talking about whether or not he could play in year four.
For Sidney Jones. 2020 is the last roundup. If he can’t prove that he can play in the final year of his rookie deal, he may never get another opportunity. The conversations are always about injuries and inconsistency. Sure, he made some plays down the stretch of Philly’s playoff push in 2019, but those moments have been few and far between since his arrival. 2020 has to be a breakout year, or Philly will indeed move on.
If the latter option is the decision, it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which he lands elsewhere. Maybe Frank Reich gives him a shot with the Indianapolis Colts, but that’s about it. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Jones is officially on the hot seat. Grade: D
