Grades for every cornerback Philadelphia Eagles have drafted since 2010
125th-overall selection (2018)
This isn’t an emotional comment. This isn’t an overreaction to anything. If coached appropriately and if he stays healthy, Avonte Maddox has all of the tools to be an All-Pro in this league.
At a minimum, he’s a guy that we can cut in Brandon Graham‘s mold, someone who is without question one of the league’s best, even if the league never gives him credit for it.
His ceiling is he can evolve into one of the more versatile secondary players of our time. He’s struggled at times. He didn’t look good versus the Green Bay Packers in 2019 before his night ended prematurely with an injury, but he’s young. He has a ton of room to grow. 2020 will be his third season in the NFL, but we’ve already seen what he’s capable of.
Out of necessity, he’s filled in nicely at both the cornerback position and at the safety position during the first 25 games of his career. He’s got 15 starts in there by the way. He’s been a part of 82 tackles. 66 have been of the solo variety. Three have resulted in lost yardage.
He’s also got two interceptions and 14 pass breakups on his resume. All of those numbers include three playoff games. It isn’t an overreaction. Finding Maddox in the fourth round makes him a steal. Let’s see how he does under the tutelage of Manuel. The best may be yet to come from this guy. Grade: B+
