That time our Philadelphia Eagles took Nelson Agholor over a polished CB

With the Philadelphia Eagles potentially saying goodbye to Nelson Agholor, they also may get the chance to correct an issue some fans see as a gross error.

There’s a certain feeling bubbling up in all of us, and that’s true whether you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, an NBA fan, or an MLB fan (or if you love all three). As the season changes from Summer to Spring, sports fans have the best of three worlds. The NBA is headed towards that final playoff push. Spring training is upon us if you’re a baseball fan. Football fans are gearing up for the combine, the free-agency period, and the draft. Yes, Eagles fans, it’s true. Nelson Agholor and Ronald Darby have one foot out of the door!

No one even has to bring up March Madness, do they?

What’s crazy is, even with all of that happening, football still rules the roost. Every fan and team are focused on getting better, and nothing says that like trimming your roster of the guys who contribute so little and make so much money.

The emotional roller-coaster ride that has been Agholor’s career in Philly is almost at its’ end.

It’s been almost five years since Chip Kelly made him the 20th-overall selection in 2015’s NFL Draft, and even though he sandwiched a nice season in 2017 and a somewhat decent outing in 2018 between long stretches of apathy at the beginning and end of his ride in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’, Agholor’s time in midnight green just feels like it was a bad relationship, one where you know that you should have dumped your significant other earlier than you did but for whatever reason, you just couldn’t leave him or her alone.

There’s another component to this one though. Agholor’s selection preceded Byron Jones landing with the Dallas Cowboys just seven picks later. To quite a few Eagles fans and pundits, he was the guy they wanted. many had him ranked higher on their imaginary draft boards, and to this day, many of us are still scratching our heads about why Jones wasn’t Philly’s selection.

Those who don’t learn from mistakes are doomed to repeat them. Those who make mistakes often won’t get a chance to correct them, but here we are. It’s been almost five years, and again we’re all talking about Agholor and Jones. Again, Philly can toss Agholor to the side and acquire a sure thing at cornerback.

How will the scenario play out this time? Philly has a chance to fix something that many saw as an error years ago (and have continued to classify it as an error ever since). Will they pull the trigger on Jones? He could help fix an area of need. Thankfully, none of us have to wait too much longer to find out.
