Philadelphia Eagles: 5 RB options that are better than Jordan Howard
You can’t say that Howard is this slam dunk option for some sort of extension with the ‘Birds’ and not bring up Matt Breida. Sure, some of you are saying that Breida hasn’t really shown that he can carry the full load for Philly or anybody else, but neither has Howard. Some of you are saying that Matt Breida sure gets banged up a lot, but Howard hasn’t proven that he’s physically Malcolm Jenkins either.
Here’s the skinny. No one will ever confuse these two great carriers of the pigskin, but the positives about both are eerily similar. The negatives about both are almost identical as well, but in a committee system, both can explode.
From the perspective of just looking at the overall talent levels of both, the slight edge goes to Mr. Breida. He’s a slightly more skilled receiver who, in the 2019-2020 season, caught 19 passes for 120 yards for the San Francisco 49ers. Add that to 642 yards on 132 carries (including the playoffs). If he’s healthy, Breida is the better option.
He’d fit in nicely with Miles Sanders and Boston Scott. Both he and Sidney Jones can argue over who gets to wear Duce Staley‘s number, but while we’re on the subject, there’s one major issue with this idea. Philly still doesn’t have a workhorse.
