Outside linebacker

. . Best option: Shaquil Barrett. . player. 48.

Honorable mention: Yannick Ngakoue

There are some monsters at the linebacker position in this year’s free-agent class. As good as Nigel Bradham was for Philly, Shaquil Barrett and Yannick Ngakoue would be even better. They’re the best outside linebackers of this year’s bunch.

They’ve spent most of their time playing the outside linebacker role in the 3-4 scheme, but they can play the defensive end role and stick their hands in the ground in a 4-3 if need be. Both would cost the ‘Birds’ a pretty penny.

player. 124. . . . Worst option: Terrell Suggs.

Dishonorable mention: Vic Beasley, Jordan Jenkins

Here’s a message to the Eagles and their fans. Let’s not lose our minds over big-name prospects like Terrell Suggs. With all due respect, it’s time for him to hang it up. All his addition would do is lock Philly into a huge deal with a guy who is past his prime. Look no further than guys like Haloti Ngata if you need an example of what happens when Philly gets a little too free with the money.

Then, there’s Jordan Jenkins. He’s gotten to the quarterback 15 times in the past two seasons, but he’d be misused in Jim Schwartz‘s scheme. Philly’s defensive coordinator seems to hate blitzing unless the team is desperate. He expects his linebackers to play coverage versus the other team’s passing game. That’s where everything falls apart for Jenkins.

Vic Beasley was a stud at the beginning of his career, but he’s fallen off of the wagon. Don’t let the fact that he racked up four sacks in the final for games of 2019 fool you.
