2. Marcus Mariota

Remember all of the hype a few years ago surrounding the possibility of Marcus Mariota ending up on the Eagles through the draft when Chip Kelly was the head coach after the two worked together at Oregon?

Five years later, Mariota is expected to hit free agency after the Titans made the difficult decision to bench him in the middle of last season for Ryan Tannehill, and while the former Duck obviously prefers to start, he may have to settle for another backup role.

Even if there’s always the chance of Tennessee wanting to bring back both quarterbacks since injuries are unfortunately common in the NFL, Mariota is still expected to explore all options this offseason.

Since the Eagles are committed to Carson Wentz for the long run, Mariota would obviously need to be alright with settling for the backup role once again if Philadelphia were to become an option since they clearly aren’t just going to bench their beloved starter.

This may not be Mariota’s preference, but this would provide the Eagles with a reliable backup in case something were to happen to Wentz while allowing the Titans quarterback at the moment another chance to play for a reliable playoff contender.
