Eagles draft prospects: Trevon Diggs versus Cameron Dantzler, Kristian Fulton
Here’s the skinny from a few trusted voices.
The major concern about Fulton is he’s been tagged with the dreaded ‘character concerns’ title. As a former prep star, he was one of the top recruits in the country throughout 2016’s recruitment process.
Landing at one of the country’s premier programs that has a penchant for defensive back talent, he served as a backup in his freshman season before being suspended for the entire 2017 season after he got busted for using another player’s urine for a drug test. He’s had a relatively decent and quiet off-the-field resume since then.
Still, NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein compared Fulton to Quincy Wilson in his draft profile of the former LSU standout. Zierlein also sees Dantzler as being a clone of former Eagles corner Al Harris. You can read more about that here. Once you’re done, check out Zierlein’s take on Diggs, who he compares to Aqib Talib.
The Draft Network has its’ take on Fulton public, and one of their analysts’ take is he “might be the best in this class at playing with his back to the football” and that “his instinct for receivers flashing to he catch point down the field and (his) ability to time his disruption with the ball’s flight path is elite”.
Here’s some of the skinny on the other two former SEC standouts. First, here’s some of what was said in a quick breakdown of Dantzler from one The Draft Network’s best analysts.
"(He’s) a long, rangy corner that does well to stay leeraged over routes. Aggressively crowds receivers at the release and he does well to stay balanced and patient… Pretty fluid in the hips for a guy of his length and height. Has good flashes of ball skills and he doesn’t appear to have any issues finding the football in the air. Versatile enough to execute in zone, press and off-man. Has a quick trigger to attack downhill and is a willing participant in run support. Not hesitant to tackle."
Here’s a little on Diggs.
"Standout in zone coverage. Love his ability to squeeze zones and flip from the field to the boundary. Has an astute understanding of coverage spacing and how to layer zones. Does some impressive things in press coverage and he’s willing to crowd routes early. Has redirect pop in his hands and generally does well to jam at the release. Patient footwork and he rarely gets antsy. Has made some alpha plays on the ball breaking forward on it. More fluid than expected for a corner of his size. Length, size, range and play strength are assets in coverage"
Do the Eagles take a cornerback or a wide receiver? That’s the million-dollar question. Either way, they figure to upgrade the ‘Birds’ at a position of need with either decision.
