829. . . . Henry Ruggs III. 1. player

By now, Eagles fans have heard the name Henry Ruggs III so often that someone could be tricked into thinking that he’s already on the roster. Mock drafts are hot and heavy at this time of the year. Most of the ones that came out early had Philly taken a wide receiver. Many of those same mock drafts named Ruggs as the Eagles selection at 21.

In all honesty, that isn’t a very bad choice.

In Ruggs, the ‘Birds’ would be getting arguably the speediest guy in the draft (most are going to give that honor to Reagor), but rather than argue over that, let’s settle it here. Both of these guys can run.

In his final season in Tuscaloosa, Ruggs hauled in 40 receptions for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. 40 games as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide. That resulted in career totals of 98 receptions for 1,716 yards and 24 touchdowns. He picked up another 75 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on two rushing attempts as a well.

Unfortunately, he suffered a concussion in Alabama’s Citrus Bowl win over the Michigan Wolverines. That shouldn’t affect his draft status though. He should be the third receiver taken in April’s selection meeting after his former teammate Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb. The question is does he land in Philly?

Some will argue over whether or not the ‘Birds’ should go with Shenault or Ruggs. The latter takes the top spot on this list for now, and the reason for that is simple. With all of the issues that Philly has had with taking wide receivers who have found success at the pro level, do you think they’d risk taking the guy who might get hurt over the guy that has had minimal injury issues and seemingly can take the top off of defenses at will? Do you think any other NFL team would? Grade: A+
