Justin Jefferson among WR prospects who met with Eagles: 3 Reactions
By Erin Grugan
This could be a nice piece to the Eagles’ puzzle.
Every top receiver in any draft class has strengths and weaknesses, and sometimes, stats are overblown. Even still, Jefferson’s skill set could alleviate some of the deficiencies that we’ve seen from the Eagles in recent seasons.
Carson Wentz is in desperate need of a go-to receiver with a reliable set of hands. Philadelphia fans may recoil thinking of the infuriating number of dropped passes by the likes of Nelson Agholor, but they shouldn’t scoff at the possibility of Jefferson being a potential solution with his proven consistency and ability to develop synergism with his quarterback.
His hands combined with his length could be a huge help in converting some of those occasional off-target throws by Wentz into completions. Jefferson would also be another red-zone target.
Jefferson presents the Eagles with a welcome amount of options on how to use him. They can place him where it will best benefit the offense and do so without complicating things for Jefferson or themselves.
As a taller, longer receiver with a penchant for route running, Jefferson could be a successful addition at outside receiver, allowing for the Eagles to move Greg Ward to the slot receiver position. There may be some concerns with putting Jefferson on the outside because of his size, but one could assume he’ll add a few pounds and get stronger as he transitions to the pro game.
In terms of Jefferson’s potential as a slot receiver, the experience that he already has in that role could serve him well as a professional, especially if he can adjust to the speed of the pro game.
He may not get the amount of mention that some of his peers receive, but, if Philly doesn’t trade up or land Ruggs or Shenault at 21, Jefferson could pay dividends for a Philly team desperate for help at wide receiver.
