Philadelphia Eagles draft watch: 3 RB, OL studs and duds post-combine
Here are the studs from an offensive lineman’s standpoint.
Former Iowa Hawkeyes offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs earned himself a few dollars in Indy. Not only did he throw those 225 pounds on the bench press up 24 times, but he also showcased a 36.5-inch vertical. That’s the best by any offensive lineman since 2003.
Oh and by the way, he proved he’s only a few steps slower than some of the combine’s wideouts and running backs as he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.85 seconds.
When you ask yourself about why so much of a fuss is made about the height of quarterbacks, think of guys like Charlie Heck. This six-foot-eight, 311-pound tackle hit 21 reps on the bench press and tackled the 40 in 5.16 seconds.
If he gets up a head of steam and out front on a screen pass, do yourself a favor and just get out of the way, and yes. He’s the son of Chiefs offensive line coach Andy Heck if you were wondering.
Former USC Trojans standout Austin Jackson isn’t as large as Heck, but he can block out the Sun as well. He stands at an impressive six-foot-five and weighs 322 pounds. Can you imagine how hard it must be to see over a line that has five guys that are his size or larger?
All you can do is try and make a name for yourself at the combine, and Jackson left with some pretty high praise around his.
