Philadelphia Eagles draft watch: 3 RB, OL studs and duds post-combine
For a guy like Zack Moss, running a 4.65-second 40-yard dash isn’t going to cut it. He’s five-foot-ten. He tips the scales at 222 pounds. That number will have to improve the next time he’s given a chance to showcase what he can do.
Then, there’s the other thing. he didn’t have a bad workout, but it wasn’t jaw-dropping either other than those 19 reps he put up on the bench press.
Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish standout Chase Claypool shined in Indy during his workout. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about his former teammate, running back Tony Jones.
Sure, if Jones is to be successful at the pro level, his money will probably be made as a power back. Either way, a 4.68-second 40, a 32.5-inch vertical, and a nine-foot-eleven broad jump will make some question why he left the collegiate level a year early.
In fairness, the 40 isn’t everything and his best trait is his physicality, but on the other hand, there are no drills that measure that in the Combine.
You can throw quite a few guys in this third spot.
There’s a wealth of talent coming into the league at the running back position. There are also a few guys who have a lot of work to do. For too many guys who came in with a little fanfare, Indy won’t be a place they remember fondly.
Throw Benny Lemay, who ran a 4.75-second 40 and registered a 28.5-inch vertical, and Salvon Ahmed, whose vertical was 34.5 inches and whose 40 time was 4.62 seconds, numbers you’d expect to see from someone a few pounds heavier. Ahmed is only five-foot-eleven and 196 pounds. In other words, he’s about Michael Vick’s size.
