Don’t be surprised if you learn they value ‘Big V’ more.

Halapoulivaati Vaitai has seemingly had one foot out of the door since 2018. One minute, we’re talking about him like he’s trade bait. The next, somebody’s hurt, and ‘Big V’ is back in the spotlight. The next, we’ve seemingly placed him back on all of our imaginary trade blocks.

Sure, there have been a few hiccups since we’ve known the guy. He’d be the perfect prospect if Philly fully committed to the ground game like the Tennessee Titans. He’s clearly better in the running game than he is in pass protection, but here’s something we can say about ‘Big V’ that we can’t say about the incumbent or over half of the guys Philly could find as a replacement.

Guys who can play both the left and right tackle spots and at guard are extremely rare. When Lane Johnson got suspended in 2016 and hurt in 2019, it was ‘Big V’ who stepped in on the right side. When Peters got hurt during Philly’s championship run during the 2017-2018 season, ‘Big V’ filled in on the left side.

He was unflappable, and he’s a very important reason why the ‘Birds’ hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. Those of you who are totally ready to give Vaitai the boot may want to take your emotions out of the argument and rethink that stance slightly.
