Remember Joe Douglas?

Once upon a time, Joe Douglas rode through the streets of Philadelphia on his proverbial chariot of fire and beat his chest as two white horses brought him and his brilliance to the Novacare Complex. Okay, maybe it wasn’t as extreme as that, but some of us were excited.

After stops with the Baltimore Ravens as a scout and with the Chicago Bears as their Director of College Scouting, Douglas was hired to be the Eagles’ Vice President of Player Personnel. Both he and Howie were supposed to evaluate talent, put draft board after draft board together, and set the ‘Birds’ up for long sustained success.

Well, hindsight is always seen in 20-20 vision, and things didn’t quite work out the way fans hoped. Roseman and Douglas’ drafts together were mediocre, but somehow, good old Joe managed to finagle his way into a vacant general manager’s job with the New York Jets.

They currently hold the 11th-overall selection in 2020’s selection meeting. Might the ‘Birds’ be interested? Okay, there’s no nice way to say this. Douglas doesn’t know what he’s doing, and he can be taken advantage of here.

You’d think Howie, who has a nice working relationship with several franchises around the league, could convince his former understudy to swap first-round selections and one or two of those late-round picks in 2020. Let’s say Roseman parts with one or two of the compensatory picks or a conditional selection in 2021 as the Jets have a ton of holes to fill.

Would it be considered greedy if we, somehow, dumped the rights to Alshon Jeffery off on them too, or is that pushing it with his high price tag and injury history? After all, the Jets are losing Robbie Anderson to free agency, and Sam Darnold needs weapons.

Heck, Douglas picked up Josh Adams last season after Philly cut him. You don’t think he’d mull over the idea of bringing Jeffery to New York? Keep in mind both know each other from their time together in both Chicago and Philly.
