1. Philly’s failures at adding depth to the offensive line.

It’s a question that’s been asked constantly for several seasons. Why won’t the Birds part ways with Peters? To be honest, the answer to that one isn’t that hard to figure out. Philly’s been screwing up too many draft choices or trading them away (they’ve only had ten picks during the last two offseasons), and it’s led to them diluting the overall talent of their roster.

Just look at the offensive line. You’ll find guys who are good but not great (Matt Pryor). You’ll also find projects (Sua Opeta). and yes, there’s even a former rugby player that the Eagles spent one of their five draft choices in 2018 on, Jordan Mailata.

Really? They couldn’t find a lineman who actually played football before?

That brings us all to Halapoulivaati Vaitai. Regardless of what some of you want to believe, ‘Big V’ presents a ton of value for this Eagles franchise. Sure, there’s this idea in a large part of the Eagles fan base that he isn’t cutting it. For that reason, there’s a high chance that he’s allowed to walk once these potential free agents are allowed to sign with other franchises.

Well, there’s that and the fact that he’ll command a very high price tag for a man who figures to be a backup on Philly’s offensive line in 2020. Still, here’s something that tends to get overlooked.

There aren’t that many offensive linemen in the pro game that can play both tackle spots and at guard. Philly loves versatility. They love guys who can play multiple positions. What they don’t love is guys who don’t try hard enough. That brings us to last season’s 22nd-overall selection.
