Most believe, and with good reason, that the Eagles selection in the first round will be a wide receiver. Many have also tossed the idea around that their second selection in 2020 will be a cornerback, but when you look at the names on both lists, something pops out immediately.

This season’s safety class isn’t as deep as what we see with the corners. Then, there’s this. If the Eagles re-sign Jalen Mills and land Byron Jones in free agency, their situation at cornerback isn’t as desperate as it once appeared to be.

Keep in mind the fact that they have a new coach in the secondary with Marquand Manuel, and there are guys like Cre’Von LeBlanc, who signed a one-year extension on September 2nd, and Avonte Maddox, who wouldn’t be half bad if he became a better tackler, already in the fold. Sure, Philly needs to draft corners, but they could wait until Round 3 to do so.

If strengthening the backend of the defense in Round 2 is the theory, Ashtyn Davis may be the guy. He’s got all of the toughness that you want, but he can miss a few tackles as well because he tends to get a little reckless. He’s gotten everything from second-round to fourth-round grades so far. He didn’t participate in anything at the NFL Combine other than the bench press. He managed 14 reps in doing so.
