6 can’t-miss safety prospects for Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 NFL Draft
Former Georgia Bulldogs starting safety J.R. Reed brought the guy with the ball down 54 times while hauling in an interception and breaking up seven passes in his final season “between the hedges”. He’s a six-foot-one, 194-pound prospect who’s the son of former NFL receiver Jake Reed and the nephew of long-time defensive back Dale Carter.
At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash, registered 15 reps on the bench press, and turned in a 34-inch vertical and a 130-inch broad jump.
In 2019, Reed impressed with his ability to cover big slot receivers and tight ends, but he also showcased a high football IQ and the instincts that are lacking in safeties who are years older. He can cause a ton of issues in the box, but he can also play well versus the pass. He’s a better tackler than some of the guys mentioned earlier, but despite that, he’s getting a lot of marks that say he’ll have his name called in the third round or later.
Perhaps that’s due to some of the belief that he needs a little more size and he isn’t very explosive. He does get a nice nod in his draft profile by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, who compares him to Xavier Woods. Place his name on your imaginary draft boards if you’ve been following along.
