54. . . . Andre Dillard. 77. player

Hey, since some of you are already ticked off with the Barnett reference, there’s no point in stopping now.

The first question about this one is obvious. Why in the ‘you know what’ would Philly allow Jason Peters to test free agency and trade their first-round selection from a year ago? That’s hard to answer, but here’s another question. Would Philly trade Andre Dillard in a package with Alshon Jeffery just to get Jeffery out of town?

That question was asked by Matt Mullin of the Philly Voice about a week ago. The long and the short of things is this. All of these comments and debates about Dillard didn’t start for no reason. There are questions about his mental toughness and him crying last year when coaches tried to push him. There are also questions about why he seemingly accepted defeat about playing right tackle versus the Seattle Seahawks before the game even kicked off.

Sure, on the surface, it appears that trading the young left tackle is silly. They traded up to get this guy. Then again, that does kind of explain why the rumors of Jason Peters staying picked up recently. Maybe Philly doesn’t believe that Dillard is ready.

Could the Eagles actually trade Dillard and get a key piece at another position or, even better, convince someone to give them the first-round selection back that they used to get Dillard in the first place? If they could, you don’t think they’d, at least, think about it?

Halapoulivaati Vaitai is sitting around. We know he can play both tackle spots and at guard, and on top of that, we don’t have to hear any weird explanations about doing something with your right hand if you’re left-handed. Or was it learning to use your left hand if you’re right-handed? Either way, most would rather have a guy that doesn’t care where he’s playing. Give ‘Birds’ fans that over a guy who isn’t mentally tough any day.
