Is Alshon Jeffery’s relationship with Eagles repairable?
Act 1: A little rain falls
There were the anonymous quotes, the burner account, Howard Eskin’s damning accusation, and the way the young guns picked up an offense that had seemed stagnant while Jeffery and Nelson Agholor ran most of the important routes. With DeSean Jackson injured, the focus shifted to the other two star receivers, often for a lot of the wrong reasons as fans named them as the culprits for some newfound locker-room drama.
Jeffery allegedly had made some derogatory comments about Wentz rather than approach the man face to face. Who knows what Agholor’s problem was. Despite his flaws on the field, Wentz always defended him. It felt like Agholor had betrayed the entire team when he threw Wentz under the bus after that long bomb was off target in Arlington. Here’s what was worse. No one had any proof that Jeffery had spoken to Josina Anderson or that Agholor was the owner of the mysterious burner account. It’s hard to ignore one major fact though.
Once Jeffery and Agholor both were confronted, all of that seemed to stop. Once both exited with an injury, things shifted, and the offense grew tighter. Honestly, we may never know what happened, but here’s what we can all agree on. If you took a poll, most “Birds” fans are glad that Agholor is gone, and they want Jeffery out of the picture as well, even if that means the team would have to eat a ton of money in his absence.
Jeffery is currently still among Philly’s wounded, and with his high price tag, it’s hard to imagine the team would be able to move him via trade. They could cut him, but what if they didn’t? What if they actually kept him? Is this relationship repairable?
