3. Philly lands another rugby star, Jordan Mailata.

There has to be a better way of finding an NFL prospect than continually looking for big guys who can play rugby. Twice during the Doug Pederson era, we’ve seen Philly try it. It didn’t work with Adam Zaruba, the experiment at tight end. It doesn’t seem as though the Jordan Mailata thing is going to work out either.

Okay, everybody gets it. Jordan Mailata was a seventh-round guy, so there was nothing to lose. Everybody knew he was a project. Everyone knew this may take a while, but we’re heading into Year 3.

Mailata’s second season was halted by injury, but if by chance we find out Jordan Mailata isn’t the tackle that Philly thought he was capable of being (and it seems as though he may not be), why is anyone surprised that the guy that never played football doesn’t know how to play football?

Mailata was taken 233rd overall, and with him going so late, there isn’t much of an argument for taking any of the guys who were selected after him. Still, seeing as how they only made five picks in 2018’s draft, their seventh-round selection should have been put to better use. If not, they should have just traded it for the opportunity to make a better selection later. Even as a seventh-round selection, this one is drifting towards “bust” potential.
