. . Brian Dawkins, safety (1996-2008). . player. 54.

Some names are mentioned, and they create a different level of buzz. Chuck Bednarik played on both sides of the ball and is one of the great Eagles of all time. He’s also the only Eagle to play on both the 1949 NFL Championship team and the 1960 NFL Championship team.

Tommy McDonald‘s name puts a smile on every Eagles fan’s face. Buddy Ryan is a folk hero even though he didn’t win squat that mattered, but even in thinking of all of those great men, there’s another that captures the affection like no one who ever wore the Eagles jersey ever has.

That man is Brian Dawkins.

“Weapon X” made four Pro Bowls. He was a First-team All-Pro four times. He was a Second-team All-Pro in 2009. He’s a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team and the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame.

No Eagle will ever wear the number 20 again. Place Mr. Dawkins in Teddy Roosevelt’s spot.
