Eagles legend Merrill Reese weighs in on Philly’s best WR trio ever

Ever since 1977, Reese has brilliantly held down the role of being the Eagles’ play-by-play announcer on the team’s radio call. If you’ve ever seen any Eagles highlights, particularly the ones that we see on all of the NFL Films highlights, you’ve heard that distinctive voice before.

For over 42 years, Reese has been there to call some of the greatest moments in the Eagles’ history. He was there for the Super Bowl, the original “Miracle of the Meadowlands”, and the second version (or third if you count Brian Westbrook’s punt return as the second of three).

The point is this. Reese knows these Eagles inside and out, so if he says DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Jason Avant was the best starting trio that he’s ever seen, there’s probably some credence to the theory, and that’s exactly what he said via his Twitter account recently. "In my opinion the best Eagles wide receiver trio ever was DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Jason Avant. There were some other outstanding pairs but no Eagles team had three of that caliber."

Earlier, it was stated that there are bad components to being on social media and some good ones. Some of the positives of social media have been mentioned. Here’s what pops out immediately as far as negatives go. There are always the people who hide behind anonymous threats and the people who think they know more about someone’s profession than they do.

Everyone thinks they’re a better play caller than Doug Pederson and a better general manager than Howie Roseman. The truth is none of us are. Being good at EA Sports’ Madden game isn’t proof that someone can coach, even though many would like to believe that it is.

There’s no point in even arguing about how fans who don’t cover a particular team on a daily basis love calling the media outlets that are paid to cover the team daily “idiots”. Here’s a news flash. The media has sources. Fans normally don’t. Fans seek affirmation, not information. They don’t want to get things right. They want to be right.

The point of all of that is this. Merrill Reese has watched every Eagles wide receiver that has played on this team since 1977, and he’s done so in a live capacity. He even shares the booth with one of Philly’s best ever, Mike Quick. If Mr. Reese says Jackson, Avant, and Maclin are the best trio he’s seen, that should be good enough for all of us. The man knows what he’s talking about.
