The Eagles certainly deserve a ton of credit for addressing their cornerback need this offseason by acquiring Darius Slay in a trade.

And while the three-time Pro Bowler is basically a lock to become the new top cornerback in Philadelphia’s defense, the No. 2 job is still a bit of a mystery at the moment.

Looking at the current roster, the Eagles are fortunate enough to have a few players that seem determined to compete for the No. 2 job, and even though Sidney Jones is considered the favorite by many at the moment, plenty could still change over the next few months.

For example, what if Philadelphia decided to add a cornerback early on in the draft with the intention of them becoming the new starter alongside Slay?

If this were to turn out to be the case, the Eagles would most likely need to get make some moves at the cornerback position, and since the potential surrounding Jones still seems to be too high, Avonte Maddox could be the odd-man out.

In a way, Maddox has managed to make a surprise impact over the last two years as a former fourth-round pick, but the argument can also be made that Philadelphia expected more from the cornerback last season with all of the inconsistency at the position.

So while Maddox has certainly displayed potential at times over the last two years, the Eagles need to do what is best for the defense at the end of the day, even if this means bringing on someone new at cornerback through the draft.
