The numbers don’t lie.
In the 2019 season, Wentz threw for 4,039 yards and 27 touchdowns, making him the first quarterback in Eagles franchise history to surpass the 4,000-yard milestone. As if this wasn’t impressive enough, as mentioned, he did so without having a single wide receiver eclipse 500 yards.
His leading receiver was Alshon Jeffrey, who was the only receiver that was close with 490 yards receiving. Due to the plethora of injuries Philadelphia incurred in 2019, Wentz was forced to work with whoever was available each week, completing 388 passes to 16 different receivers.
Also noteworthy, of those 4,000-plus yards, about 250 were in the red zone where Wentz displayed incredible lethality. Philly’s signal-caller threw 19 touchdowns and zero interceptions when in the red zone. Not much more can be asked of a quarterback than scoring touchdowns while also efficiently protecting the ball.
High passing numbers look nice on paper and in record books, but holding onto the ball wins titles. If the Eagles can remain healthy and make the right moves in the draft, this Eagles team, led by Carson Wentz, could be a force to be reckoned with.
A sense of reliability at the wideout position would raise Wentz’s’ ceiling exponentially in 2020, which should take him into the realm of 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns. How’s that for a bold prediction?
