1. We know the limitations of both, and we don’t even recognize Cam anymore.

There’s this old theory that’s been around awhile. Though now, it’s kind of difficult to remember where we first heard it. You know, sort of like one of those “offense sells tickets, and defense wins championships” things.

There’s a belief that guys who can freelance a little better from the pocket are prone to do so, while guys who can’t do that have to rely on scheme and coaching. That makes them slightly easier to coach and more reliant on the system.

If you think about it, that’s sort of what went on with Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. Wentz isn’t a rogue quarterback. Foles isn’t some “sitting duck” who’s just sitting around and waiting to get popped, but if we’re being honest, Foles isn’t the athlete that Wentz is. Few people are. That makes “9” more reliant on trusting the system and the play call.

It’s not like Wentz is changing plays in the huddle. He just has another component to his game.

Flacco is a nice athlete. He just doesn’t possess Cam Newton’s athleticism, but in Cam’s case, there’s something else we must discuss. The physical deterioration that he’s seen over the past few seasons leads one to believe he may not even be able to do the things that made him great anymore, and a Cam Newton that can’t run and can’t throw lasers because of the issues with his shoulder and can’t jump over people isn’t a Cam Newton that anyone wants to see.

He’s not going to change his game at this point in his career, even if he must do so.
