4. Most importantly Joe won’t need to be reminded what his role is.

Ladies and gentlemen, Philly isn’t looking to replace Carson Wentz. They’re looking for an experienced backup to help tutor him. Joe Flacco has accepted he isn’t a starter now, and he’s dealt with the backup role before. Cam Newton is looking for a starting gig. The day he walks into the Novacare Complex, there will be an issue. It doesn’t appear as though that will be an issue for a guy who’s from the area and grew up an Eagles fan.

Joe Flacco doesn’t need to be reminded of what his role is on this team if Philly is indeed tossing around the idea of bringing him into their nest. The man who rips open his imaginary blazer and button-down to reveal the imaginary “S” on his chest will have to be reminded of that constantly.

When Carson Wentz throws that errant pass or misses that wide-open receiver, do you want him coming back to the sideline, grabbing that Microsoft Surface Tablet, and sitting next to Cam Newton? Think about that for a second.

This team needs a guy with Flacco’s track record, temperament, and personality. They need a guy that’s helping Wentz and not competing with him. They need a backup quarterback. To be honest, that probably doesn’t need to be Flacco or Newton, but if both are being mentioned, and they are, the long and short of things is this. Flacco is a much better option for so many different reasons, and it isn’t even close.
