Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Bold predictions for 2020’s NFL Draft
4. A corner, an offensive tackle, and an interior lineman are added between Round 4 and Round 5.
The Eagles have Darius Slay now, but just in case no one’s been paying attention, they still need to figure out who’s going to be playing on the other side of the defensive formation.
Currently, the Eagles have Rasul Douglas, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Avonte Maddox, Sidney Jones, Craig James, and Cre’Von LeBlanc on the employee roster. Philly addressed many of their defensive needs during the free-agency period, but even though they have a ton of bodies to compete at cornerback, they haven’t ironed out who the second cover guy on the depth chart is.
They’ve painted themselves into a corner offensively. So much so that much of their attention needs to turn to the offensive side of the ball during the draft now, but they can’t ignore the best players available on defense. They still need a linebacker (or two). They need a legitimate pass rusher, someone other teams are afraid of, and they need and another cover corner.
Just in case it hasn’t crossed your mind, this team could lose Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, and Sidney Jones after 2020’s season, and no one can guarantee that Josh Sweat, Genard Avery, and Avonte Maddox are ready to fill the void if that happens.
Expect the “Birds” to use a couple of their midround picks on offensive line depth because they’ll have to solidify what’s missing on defense a little later. They’ll address offensive line depth and the cornerback position between rounds four and five. You may not see a pass rusher taken until Round 6.
