Might Philly and Detroit discuss more draft capital.

Perhaps the highlight of the Eagles offseason so far from a personnel standpoint, outside of their decision to let Malcolm Jenkins go, has been the addition of former Lions cornerback Darius Slay. Philly gave away two draft picks to acquire his services. They wouldn’t think of handing over more draft capital to the same team, would they?

This is a team that plays in their conference, a team that they just lost to in  September. Here’s Barnwell’s theory. The Eagles hand the Lions the 21st-overall selection and a third-round selection in 2021.

Philly, in turn, gets the 35th-overall selection in Round 2, the 109th-overall selection in Round 4, and a second-round selection in 2021. Here’s a quote.

"If the first round doesn’t break the way the Eagles are hoping at wide receiver, they could trade down and use two of what would become their four picks in the second and third rounds to add multiple wideouts. They would also add what could be a high-end second-rounder in 2021."

That sound that you just heard is the draft train arriving at the station and the majority of the Eagles’ fans and Philly media getting off immediately. Here’s more from Barnwell’s theory.

"If the Lions don’t draft cornerback Jeff Okudah with the No. 3 pick, this would be a spot in which they could trade up for CJ Henderson or Trevon Diggs ahead of the Vikings, who are going to be thinking defensive back with one of their first-round picks at Nos. 22 and 25."

Though interesting, most are going to go with a hard pass on this one, and while moving up to the 11th-overall selection sounds like a winner, it doesn’t seem cost-effective for the “Birds” to do so. They began the offseason with ten draft selections. They’re down to eight after striking a deal with Detroit.

Trending. Way too early predictions for every game in 2020. light

Dwindling their draft capital down to six selections doesn’t seem like a wise move at all. At the time of this story being published, the NFL Draft is a week away. Expect a few more theories. Expect for there to be some debate. Expect for there to be a few more trade scenarios, but it’s safe to say, with everything Philly has riding on this draft, these are two ideas that we can throw out.

They need as much draft capital as possible.
