Here’s the skinny on Hurts.

By now, you’ve said the words to yourself at least 20 times. “With the 53rd-overall selection in the NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Jalen Hurts, a quarterback from the Oklahoma Sooners“.  It still seems surreal, but hopefully, you’re at least past the point of being angry if you were.

No one wants to hear this right now, but it’s important. Hurts does fill a need. The quarterback position might be the most important in all of the team sports, and seeing as how, whether it’s been his fault or not, Carson Wentz hasn’t finished a season on the field since his rookie campaign in 2016, this pick makes sense.

Nate Sudfeld isn’t the answer if Wentz goes down. Some say Hurts isn’t the answer if Wentz goes down either, but, at least in Hurts, there’s a higher ceiling. We know he can do some great things as he’s been the starter at two historic college football programs, the aforementioned Sooners and before that, in Tuscaloosa with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

In 56 career games at the collegiate level, he’s thrown for 9,477 yards and 80 touchdowns during his run with both programs. He added another 3,274 yards and 43 scores with his legs. Might Philly create a package for their new signal-caller. Don’t be surprised if you see him on the field early in his career and often in his career.
