Philadelphia Eagles: Best picks still available for No. 53 of 2020 NFL Draft
By Dan Parzych
No matter how hard the Eagles attempt to replace Malcolm Jenkins at safety in the draft, it’s going to seem nearly impossible since his leadership on defense was one of a kind, but also this isn’t going to prevent Philadelphia from at least trying.
At the moment, the Eagles have plenty of reasons to be excited over their current safety duo at the moment in Jalen Mills and Rodney McLeod, but they are expected to consider other prospects as well in the draft.
With all due respect to Mills, despite his previous experience at the position, there is no guarantee the switch from cornerback to safety will work out for the best.
Plus, with Mills only on a one-year deal, Philadelphia played it smart by keeping their options beyond the 2020 season, the draft is the perfect opportunity to bring some extra competition on board.
Over the months, there has been speculation over the possibility of the Eagles going with Antoine Winfield Jr. as one of their selections beyond the first round, and this could very well happen on Friday.
Winfield has received all sorts of praise for his ability to defend any kind of receiver, no matter the size.
So if Philadelphia is in fact looking for a Day 2 safety, Winfield could be one of their best options to consider.
