The tight ends (3)

Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, Joshua Perkins

Philadelphia might be one of the only sports cities on Planet Earth where a star can set a league record for receptions at his position, return the following year as one of the better offensive weapons on the roster, and find himself as the topic of trade talks at season’s end. Why? It’s simple. Zach Ertz is one of the top three players at his position and wants to be paid like it.

It’s a scenario that happens all of the time in professional sports, but in Philly, it’s something that can split a fan base in half.

Here we are, and “86” has joined the ranks of other Philadelphia sports stars like Ben Simmons and Carson Wentz, guys who some Philly sports fans want to run out of town even though there’s no reason to do so. At least the Eagles organization knows better, and they’ve committed, for the next two seasons at least.

On March 26th, they exercised his 2021 option. That will give them time to work out a deal, and for the next two seasons, Philadelphia will field two of the top ten tight ends in the NFL in Ertz and Dallas Goedert. That’s a pretty sweet deal. Expect Josh Perkins to make the squad as the third tight end on the depth chart.
