2. Can we argue he’s given credit for things Doug Pederson did?

The next time you and your friends and or coworkers are mulling over whether Tom Brady made Bill Belichick or vice versa, ask yourselves a question. Is Howie Roseman responsible for the Eagles’ success between 2017 and 2019 or is it Doug Pederson?

Howie made those two trades in the draft that brought Carson Wentz to Philly, but it’s been Doug that’s made him a potential MVP winner in 2017, and it’s been Doug who’s worked this team into the playoffs even though guaranteed deals are given to the wrong guys and players are re-signed one time too many because Howie can’t seem to draft the next wave of great Eagles.

Sure, both have worked well with one another. Who brought Nick Foles back? That was Howie. Who coached Nick Foles, got him comfortable with those run-pass options, and made him into the Super Bowl MVP? That was Doug.

Let’s go back a little further. You saw Nick Foles versus what was then the Oakland Raiders on Christmas in 2017. Did he look ready? No one was confident about Philly’s state of offensive readiness heading into the playoffs, but great coaching led to three great games. Now, ask yourselves again. Did Howie Roseman do that, or was it Doug Pederson?

Maybe Coach Pederson needs to be given a little more credit than he’s gotten. He’s made the playoffs in three straight seasons, despite injuries, despite the obstacles, and even though he’s been asked to make egg salad when too often all he’s had to work with is broken eggshells. Now, is that because Roseman’s retooled the roster effectively, or is it because Coach just made average players look better than they were? It’s definitely worth a discussion.
