1. The best players will make the roster, and we’re not certain if JJ qualifies.

If someone took a poll on who would and wouldn’t make the roster, the general consensus would probably be the expectation is Philly keeps six receivers on the final 53-man roster. You’d probably also hear that DeSean Jackson and this year’s first-round selection, Jalen Reagor, are locked to make the roster. You may even get a split vote on JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

You’d probably also hear a lot of the following. Alshon Jeffery is hurt and probably too expensive to trade. Greg Ward has earned a roster spot after all that he’s been through, but everyone knows that there aren’t any real guarantees. It’s probably also hard to believe that Philly would trade for Goodwin just so they could cut him.

Do you see how quickly it begins to feel like we’re talking about eight guys in a battle for one or, at the maximum, two roster spots?

It doesn’t look good for the Gibsons, and the Hightowers, and the Watkins of the world, at least on the surface, but nothing is impossible.

The fact of the matter is we all can guess, but it’s only May. None of us know what Philly’s planning. None of us can see into the future. Sure, Ward has earned his spot, but that doesn’t mean that it will be given to him. Then, there’s this. Who’s to say that Philly won’t move on from Arcega-Whiteside after a single season if he’s outplayed in camp (assuming there’s a camp).

The best players will make the roster, and we aren’t sure that JJ qualifies are we? None of us are sure that this team still wants Jeffery, are we? JJ’s is a story of whether or not Philly can admit that they made a mistake if the time comes. It took them a while to say that about Mack Hollins, but even with that being said, Alshon’s story is a little more involved (and expensive).
