. Jack Driscoll, OG, Round 4. . player. 54. .

Gus Malzahn, head coach of the Auburn Tigers recently participated in an interview with Fran Duffy, the well-known Eagles Insider and the host of the Eagle Eye in the Podcast. Why? Duffy was looking to get some inside info on two former Tigers standouts the Eagles landed on the draft’s third day.

Their names are Jack Driscoll, a hybrid player who figures to be an interior lineman at the professional level, and Prince Tega Wanogho, an offensive tackle who moved to Alabama from Nigeria in hopes of becoming the next LeBron James. In Driscoll, the “Birds” get a second-generation NFL star. His father was John Driscoll who was drafted in 1989 by the Buffalo Bills, back when there 12 rounds in the selection meeting.

The newer model Driscoll transferred to Auburn from the UMass Minutemen’s football program in 2018. He was a day one starter at right tackle for the Tigers, and he held that spot down for two seasons. Coach Malzahn calls him a “coach on the field”. His versatility is what the Eagles coaches are going to love.

Often, what Halapoulivaati Vaitai brought to the table for Philly is undervalued. Guys who can play both tackle spots and at guard in the NFL don’t grow on trees. Now that Vaitai is gone, Driscoll may be able to step in and fill that void.

He’ll play guard in the NFL, so don’t expect to see him early as Philly will roll out Brandon Brooks and Isaac Seumalo as the starters, but there’s no doubt that this fourth-rounder can challenge Matt Pryor, Sua Opeta, and Nate Herbig for a spot on the roster. If not, he’s a lock for the practice squad where some other NFL team may have a chance to steal him. Eagles fans should hope that doesn’t happen.
