It’s kind of hard to evaluate Jabaal Sheard and what he’d bring to a 4-3 defensive scheme like the one the Eagles run. Playing with his hand in the dirt may not be his thing, but no one can state that definitively.
He hasn’t registered less than five sacks since he managed only two in 2014, but that was with the Cleveland Browns, and he only started five of the 16 games he appeared in.
Since then, he’s played a lot of snaps in the 3-4 thanks to a 36-game run with the New England Patriots and his best season since 2015, his first with the Indianapolis Colts, where he racked up 52 tackles and 5.5 sacks under Chuck Pagano.
After Pagano’s dismissal, Philly’s former offensive coordinator Frank Reich took the reigns. The Colts converted to the 4-3, and since that time, Sheard has been on the field for 1,382 regular-season defensive snaps. He’s managed 82 total tackles and 11 sacks over the course of the last 31 games. Those numbers include the playoffs.
He’s 31 but could contribute in a rotational role if need be.
