Philadelphia Eagles roster outlook: Team DE power rankings and grades
Right at the trade deadline in 2019, Philly, who had been relatively quiet up until that point, made a move. They sent a fourth-round selection in 2021’s draft to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Genard Avery‘s services.
This one’s pretty hard to grade. To be frank, the only real way to quantify this will be to see how Avery develops. Then, we’ll need to see who the Browns take with that fourth-round selection and how he develops. Then, maybe one day we’ll all sit with friends, compare the two to one another, and talk about how Philly pulled one over on the Browns again.
Until then, we can only speculate. Philly didn’t get much from Avery in eight games a season ago. He stuck his head in on three tackles and a half a sack, but there’s no need to panic or hang Howie Roseman an effigy, at least not right now.
What we were told was Avery’s addition was more about 2020 than 2019, and adding him at the trade deadline was done with the intent of giving him a jump start on this season. We’ll see how things go and if the plan works. One thing we can say is this. There are a lot of Browns fans who seemed upset that Avery was gone. For the emotional health of some of this fan base, this is a move that has to work out. Grade: undetermined
