Alejandro Villanueva as the Eagles’ left tackle?

Every season, it’s the dream of every NFL team. Might one of those draft choices become a perennial Pro Bowl nod? What about those undrafted guys? Sure, it would be nice if every crop of undrafted free agents produces a John Randle, but that often won’t happen. Everyone can agree on this next statement though.

These days, it’s hard to imagine that seven rounds went by in 2010’s draft without any of the 32 teams calling the name of one Alejandro Villanueva. He may not be a surefire Hall-of-Fame candidate at this juncture, but if you tell any team that they can get an undrafted guy after any selection meeting that will turn into a two-time Pro Bowler, every squad you talk to will sign up.

That’s Alejandro Villanueva’s story, but here’s what’s really interesting about the guy who’s expected to again protect Ben Roethlisberger‘s blindside. Philly was the team that actually signed Villanueva as an undrafted prospect in 2010.

Now, we can’t truthfully say that they had some sort of lapse in judgment. Philly had “The Bodyguard” Jason Peters, and that worked out well for them. Still, even with that being said, with Peters and Halapoulivaati Vaitai gone now and with  Andre Dillard being a question mark, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone of Villanueva’s caliber in the fold. Maybe the Steelers would listen to trade offers. After all, they have Chukwuma Okorafor to fall back on if Villanueva leaves.
