Philadelphia Eagles tale of the tape: The conclusion
Urban legend states that once upon a time in a home game versus the Bills with LeSean McCoy on the opposite sideline for the first time at Lincoln Financial Field, Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie watched from above as the man his team once drafted, McCoy, juked the man he was traded for, Kiko Alonso, and that was one of the final nails in the coffin for an era of Eagles football with Chip Kelly on the sideline.
If we’re thinking about who we love more, that’s “Shady”. If we’re discussing who the Eagles might get the most out of, that’s Freeman, but the fact of the matter is this. Both of these guys are past their prime, and the Eagles really shouldn’t sign either one of them.
As a member of the Eagles’ fan base or as a member of Philly’s media, it’s easy to get emotional. It’s easy to think of “Shady” dashing through the snow in that blizzard back in 2013. It’s easy to think of every one of those 6,792 rushing yards and say “I want him back”, but let’s be honest.
Imagine there was no jersey. Imagine we only saw silhouettes. If some random guy looked the way both Freeman and Mccoy looked over the past two seasons and there was no name on the back of the jersey, would you want either of these guys on your team?
Take your emotions out of the argument. Think for a second. Breathe. Here’s the verdict.
If we’re thinking about who we love more, that’s “Shady”. If we’re discussing who the Eagles might get the most out of, that’s Freeman, but the fact of the matter is this. Both of these guys are past their prime, and the Eagles really shouldn’t sign either one of them.
Give Adrian Killins or Michael Warren a shot or snatch up someone else when final roster cuts are made. Those are Philly’s best options at this point. It’s time to look through the windshield and stop looking in the rear-view mirror. The “Wentz Wagon” is full steam ahead.
