The most electric deep threat in Philadelphia Eagles’ history.
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson has his sights set on the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His resume is up there with the best of this generation, but if 2020 isn’t a bounceback season his chances of getting into Canton could be in jeopardy.
Right now Jackson is 42nd all-time in receiving yards, and with a full, well played season, Jackson could shoot up the list into the mid-30s., especially if more performances like the one he showcased in Week 1 of 2019 are on the horizon. One thing working in Jackson’s favor is his history as a return man. He has just above 1,300 career return yards, putting his all-purpose yardage total at a smidge north of 12,000.
Certainly, Jackson is responsible for some of the NFL’s most electrifying plays of the past decade. His vertical speed and game-changing ability is something football fans will remember for a long time after his playing days are over, but is he Hall-of-Fame worthy?
Jackson thinks so. John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia tweeted out a video of Jackson working out with the caption “Eagles are thinking about his legacy, and DJax has his eyes on Hall of Fame.” Statistically speaking, Jackson has a long way to go to solidify things, but no one can deny what he’s capable of when he steps on the field. That’s his legacy.
Jackson can run past a defense’s best cover guy, and he can score from anywhere in ten seconds or less. When he was in his prime, punters didn’t want to kick to him. Cornerbacks couldn’t cover him with any consistency, and every offensive coach was a fan.
Jackson will undoubtedly finish his career in Philly, and he probably has a spot in the Eagles’ Hall of Fame locked up. A spot in Canton, however, with so much steep competition, is no guarantee. Even still, Jackson is a generational game-changer, and whether he gets in the Hall someday or not, he’ll be remembered as one of the most exciting players of a decade. Do the Philadelphia Eagles have four Hall of Famers on the roster? Only time will tell.
