54. . . . Nathan Gerry. 47. player

Gerry is one very interesting member of the Philadelphia Eagles that no one is discussing.

Here’s someone we don’t talk about that often on subjects like the one we’re discussing but think about this for a second. If we’re talking about value and contracts and long-term extensions, why is it that we aren’t bringing up Nathan Gerry’s name when we bring up guys to put on the trade block?

The Eagles have long treated the linebacker position like one where guys can be filtered in and out of the lineup, with the exception of the occasional talent like Nigel Bradham or Nathan Gerry of course.

At the time of this story being published, the “White Snake” has yet to sign a long-term deal past 2020. He’s in the final year of his rookie contract. He’s 25, super-talented, and versatile enough to play outside linebacker and safety. Maybe, with T.J. Edwards, Davion Taylor, and Shaun Bradley in the fold, we should start talking about what his trade value might be. Hey, it’s just a suggestion.

. . . Derek Barnett. 96. player. 54

Barnett must prove his value or the Philadephia Eagles must send him packing.

Take much of what was said about Jones, remove everything that was stated about the injuries, and you’ve got, to some extent, Derek Barnett. In the 2017 NFL Draft, which was ironically hosted in Philadelphia, the “Birds” took a swing on a former standout with the Tennesee Volunteers.

We’ve heard all about Barnett being the guy that broke Reggie White’s sack record with the Vols, which is a little misleading by the way (White appeared in 22 games as opposed to Barnett’s 39). Yes, “96” has had his moments, but we spend more time talking about what he hasn’t done than what he has.

This might be the one guy that Philly can get the most from in a trade. After being taken 14th-overall, fans expected more than 14 sacks and 23 tackles for a loss in 35 games with 20 starts. If Barnett fails to deliver on another potential breakout season (it seems those come every year), they’ll never be able to get rid of him. He isn’t a bust yet. It’s not even close, but the word is starting to get tossed around quite often. It wouldn’t hurt to listen to a few offers.
